Walk Behind Trencher Training

Course Overview:

Walk Behind Trencher is a Heavy Equipment Entry-Level course required for anyone who will be operating a Walk Behind Trencher on the worksite.

What is a Walk Behind Trencher?

A walk behind trencher is a specific type of trencher that does not require a driver-operator. Generally, walk-behind trenchers are smaller than ride-on trenchers and may be used on smaller or private worksites. Like all heavy machinery, walk behind trenchers can be very dangerous if operated unsafely. Operators must learn how to correctly operate their machines, how to approach different types of terrain, and how to spot potential hazards on the job site.

Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:

The 1-day Walk Behind Trencher Training Course combines classroom experience with hands-on training. In-class, participants learn the fundamentals of trenching, specific features of walk behind trenching, inspection techniques, safety tips, and more. In the hands-on portion the instructor demonstrates proper operator procedures, covering topics such as trenching, steering, handling difficult terrain, and more. Trainees must pass a written exam and demonstrate proficiency with the machine in a hands-on practicum to receive their certificate.
