Wheel Loader

Course Overview:

Wheel Loader Training is a Heavy Equipment Entry-Level course required for anyone who will be operating a wheel loader on the worksite. A driver’s license and 10th grade education is required, and other prerequisites may also include WHMIS training, Ground Disturbance Level Two, and Standard First Aid.

Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:

A wheel loader is a type of tractor with a front-mounted square bucket that allows it to collect, transport and deposit material (e.g. when moving loose material into a dump truck). Like all heavy machinery, wheel loaders can be very dangerous if operated unsafely. Operators must learn correct loader operating procedures and how to spot potential workspace hazards on the job site.

Topics Include:

This 2-day Wheel Loader Training Course combines classroom experience with hands-on training. In-class, participants learn relevant provincial and federal wheel loader regulations, loading procedures, inspection techniques, and general safety tips. In the hands-on portion the instructor demonstrates proper operator procedures, covering topics such as startup and shutdown, steering and positioning, and loading and unloading. Trainees must pass a written exam and demonstrate proficiency with the machine in a hands-on practicum to receive their certificate.
