Job Title: Experienced Rescue Technician Needed Immediately

Role: Experienced Rescue Technician

Location: Kelowna, Prince George & St. John

Irwin's Safety, an IMC managed company, provides the highest standard of risk management services throughout Canada. Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Valid NFPA 1006 High Angle Rescue Technician Level

  • IRATA rope access certification would be considered an asset

Job Title: Industrial Firefighter

Role: Technician

Location: Various locations in the BC province

Irwin's Safety is currently looking for multiple Industrial Firefighters to work on a rotation basis (2 weeks on/off) on a long-term project in BC. Reporting to the Fire Chief, successful candidates will be responsible for the resolution of emergency incidents, under the supervision of the Incident Commander. Part of their job could include responding to underground emergencies, search and rescue, hazardous material control, defibrillation and/or first aid activities in accordance with Department policies and procedures as well as applicable legislation and regulations. 

Responsibilities

  • Abide by Department guidelines, rules and regulations 
  • Promptly attend emergency incidents when the alarm is sounded 
  • Lay and connect hose, direct water streams, raise and climb ladders, as well as use portable fire extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus, and other firefighting, rescue and safety tools and equipment 
  • Search for and rescue persons from danger and administer first aid to the injured 
  • Drive and operate firefighting apparatus and equipment 
  • Clean equipment and make apparatus and equipment ready for the next alarm 
  • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are in position and ready for use according to applicable Standard Operating Procedures 
  • Adhere to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards 
  • Accurately complete and file documentation 
  • Remain physically and mentally fit to satisfactorily execute duties appropriate to the job 

Qualifications (Mandatory)

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a firefighter 
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 1 and 2 certified by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and/or Pro Board Fire Services (PROBOARD) 
  • Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) training certificate 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement 

Qualifications (Recommended)

  • Valid OFA Level 1 with transportation endorsement 
  • Technical rope rescue operations training 
  • Confined space operations/entry training 
  • Incident Command System (ICS 100) training 
  • Fall protection training 

Qualifications (Preferred)

Job Title: High Angle Rescue Technician

Role: Technician

Location: Various locations

Irwin's Safety is currently looking for a locally experienced High Angle Rescue Technicians with multiple years of experience to assist with several upcoming projects in Northern BC. This role will include Rescue/CSA elements as well as performing lead position tasks. They primary responsibilities will be to work closely with all personnel on site to make sure that all hazards are identified and controls are put in place, legislation is adhered to, and evacuation and emergency response procedures are implemented. If you qualify, by means of availability/ attitude/ industrial experience, then you will be considered. 
 

Responsibilities 

  • Identifies, communicates, and monitors areas for hazards or potentially hazardous conditions
  • Determines hazard controls and develops emergency contingency plans
  • Work with clients or contractors to provide on-site rescue services such as rope rescue, high angle rescue, and confined space rescue capabilities
  • Educate and develop rescue plans for various locations and environments
  • prepare pre-planning for any and all possible rescue scenarios
  • Inspect inventory and document (on rescue equipment inspection logs) High Angle Rescue equipment (according to manufactures' instructions) to ensure all equipment is ready to use
  • Demonstrate the ability to educate and coach safety watch personnel on all safety watch duties/ responsibilities as per Health and Safety policies and procedures  
  • set up and test communications and alarm systems
  • ensure all gas detection and breathing apparatus equipment are inspected prior to use and pass a function test. Must have the ability to set up and dismantle both breathing air systems and gas detection equipment
  • Lead, demonstrate, and encourage a positive safety culture, where safety is an integral element to every task
  • Be able to fill out and accurately record Hazard Assessments for work areas
  • Must have the ability to effectively work as a team member during rescue situations and critical tasks. This includes the ability to problem solve, utilizing interpersonal skills while maintaining a level of professionalism at all times

Qualifications (Mandatory)

  • Valid NFPA 1006 High Angle Rescue Technician Level
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in High Angle/ Confined Space Rescue
  • First Aid CPR/ AED Level C
  • Fall Protection certification

Job Title: H2S Safety Supervisor

The primary responsibilities will be to ensure that workers are provided with the necessary service and equipment required to maintain a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Attend daily safety meetings with understanding of the HSE policies & procedures
  • Prepare equipment, review JSA with crew to ensure awareness of safety hazards on site
  • Able to problem solve and troubleshoot equipment when needed
  • Physically fit to be able to perform the tasks that arise daily
  • Able to work 12hr shifts (day / night)
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to run a day/ night shift on a non-critical operation
  • Ability to rig in / rig out gas detection and air trailer, and provide crew training
  • Conduct H2S drill, man down drill and H2S task-specific safety meetings
  • Conduct equipment maintenance procedures at the field level, gate security, rover and roadblock duties

Job Title: Medic

Irwin's Safety is currently looking for talented individuals to fill the role of a Medic/ OFA Level 3/ EMR in various locations throughout the BC province. The primary responsibilities will be to provide emergency medical care to injured or ill workers, including making transport decisions within their scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide First Aid in line with Federal & Provincial regulations
  • Safely driving MTC’s to and from work sites
  • Maintaining MTC’s, all equipment, and medical shacks. Take pride in the cleanliness of the MTC and/or First Aid facilities. Inspecting and Inventorying equipment daily.
  • Complete pre/post trips on MTC
  • Collect and maintain confidential medical information
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed properly
  • Effectively communicate, solve problems, and make decisions
  • Coordinate emergency care and intercepts if required
  • Follow all Health and Safety Policies
  • Read, understand and comply with the company’s Medical Control Guidelines, safety policies and job procedures, as well as all applicable government laws and regulations
