Course Objective:
Hazmat Incident Command course certifies trainees with a Hazmat Incident Command certificate which permits them to take command of a response team in the event of a hazardous materials incident.
Hazmat Incident Command is an Emergency Services Training course. Trainees learn how to assess hazmat incidents, manage hazmat response and contingency plans, create effective lines of communication within the command structure, and co-ordinate incident response with any other agencies that might be involved.
This 3-day Hazmat Incident Command course combines classroom learning with hands-on training. In-class, participants review hazardous materials legislation. Students learn which materials are considered dangerous goods and discuss incident assessment and response plans, with a focus on organizational structure and lines of communication from executive-level interactions to ground-level operations. Trainees then devise incident action plans (IAPs) for a potential hazmat incident and execute these in a simulated environment. Students are evaluated on the effectiveness of their incident action plans and must also pass a written exam to receive their certificate.
