Street Sweeper Training

Course Objective:

Street Sweeper Training is a Heavy Equipment Entry-Level course required for anyone who will be operating a street sweeper.

Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:

A street sweeper is a special type of heavy road vehicle with a network of rotating brushes underneath to sweep up street debris. Street sweepers have a unique build with a central rear axle that allow them to navigate tight curves. They are generally driven slower than the speed limit and sometimes may be driven on the wrong side of the road. Operators must learn how to navigate the vehicle, how to operate the sweeping mechanism, and how to drive defensively.

Topics Include:

This 3-day Street Sweeper Training Course combines classroom experience with hands-on training. In-class, participants learn relevant provincial and federal street sweeper regulations, inspection techniques, sweeper functions and controls, opposite-side driving, safety tips, and more. In the hands-on portion the instructor demonstrates proper operator procedures, covering topics such as driving on the opposite side, following the edge of the road, operating the sweeper, and disposing of debris. Trainees must pass a written exam and demonstrate proficiency with the machine in a hands-on practicum to receive their certificate.
