Course Overview:
Chainsaw Awareness is an Entry Level training course required for administrators on sites where chainsaws are used. Chainsaw Awareness does NOT train a worker to operate a chainsaw, rather, it instructs them on how to determine whether chainsaws are being safely operated on-site. While there are no prerequisites for Chainsaw Awareness, Basic Chainsaw Training is a suggested course.
A chainsaw is a power tool that can saw through wood efficiently and effectively. Chainsaws require careful maintenance and can be very dangerous if used carelessly or incorrectly. It is important that managers and administrators on sites where chainsaws are used have an understanding of chainsaw safety. Irwin's Chainsaw Awareness course covers the topics such as assessing chainsaw hazards, use of PPE, safe worksite procedures and others - all essential to build learner's awareness of chainsaw safety.
This 1-day Chainsaw Awareness course is taught in-person. The participants learn relevant provincial and federal chainsaw regulations and basic chainsaw safety. They also learn about worker and employer responsibilities, safe work procedures, and proper risk assessments. Trainees also learn about chainsaw PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and how to assess a chainsaw’s operational condition. They learn about features of a safe work site, including danger tree assessments, fire plans, and emergency response plans.
