Course Overview:
Workplace Advanced First Aid course is aimed at individuals who must be equipped with necessary first aider skills, including being capable of providing ongoing care, transport patients and provide emergency response. Learners must pass a written final exam to receive their Workplace Advanced First Aid certificate.
Workplace Advanced First Aid is an Emergency Services training course. This course is targeted at workplace first aiders and those interested in emergency response careers. Successful trainees can work professionally as workplace first responders and fulfill ambulance training prerequisites. Trainees must possess Standard First Aid Level C or equivalent.
This two- to three-week (80- to 120-hour) Advanced First Aid course builds on the knowledge and skills covered in Standard First Aid, including CPR, airway clearance, spinal/neck injuries, poisons, and communicable diseases. Trainees learn how to perform advanced diagnoses and assessments, respond to emergency calls, manage pregnancy/labour, multiple casualty incidents and patient extraction and transportation. Additionally, topics such as pharmacology and managing chronic illness are covered, and trainees develop a fluent understanding of all relevant medical legislation. Trainees leave the course prepared for a long-term career in the medical field.
Trainees are expected to complete pre-course reading material. Daily homework will be assigned (for the duration of the course). Not only will the students need to demonstrate a strong grasp of core concepts of the course, they will also have to complete a skills checklist, successfully complete two evaluated response scenarios, and pass a written test.
