Aerial Work Platform (AWP) Training

IRWIN'S Safety offers Aerial Work Platform (AWP) Training course designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate aerial lifts safely and effectively. This entry-level course is essential for individuals intending to use aerial lifts on the job or seeking employment as industrial equipment operators or technicians working at heights.

Course Overview:

The AWP Training course is a one-day program that provides participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in operating aerial work platforms. A prerequisite for this course is Fall Protection training, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for working at heights. Supplemental courses such as First Aid and Rope Access Training are also recommended to enhance safety and proficiency.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Understand the design, purpose, and function of aerial work platforms.
  • Learn to identify and mitigate safety hazards associated with aerial lift operations, including weather conditions, falling objects, and unstable counterweights.
  • Gain proficiency in conducting pre-start inspections and operating aerial work platforms safely.
  • Develop awareness of fall protection measures and specific fall hazards related to platform use.

Course Content:

The training includes:
  • Regulatory Compliance: Overview of federal and provincial regulations concerning aerial lift operations.
  • Hazard Awareness: Identification of potential hazards such as adverse weather, power lines, and ground conditions.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Proper use and maintenance of PPE specific to aerial work platform operations.
  • Equipment Operation and Inspection: Hands-on experience in conducting pre-start inspections and operating the equipment safely.
  • Fall Protection: Discussion of general fall protection awareness and specific fall hazards associated with aerial work platforms.


Certification:

Upon successful completion, participants receive an Aerial Work Platform operator certificate from IRWIN'S Safety, valid for three years.
