Course Objective:
Hazmat Awareness course certifies trainees to recognize and assess the presence of hazardous materials in various environments.
Hazmat Awareness is an Emergency Services Training course. Trainees learn how to recognize the presence of hazardous materials, secure compromised areas and contact appropriate authorities such as Hazmat Response Teams. All first responders should have Hazmat Awareness Training.
The 1-day Hazmat Awareness course is offered in-class. Trainees learn the classifications of dangerous goods, WHMIS, NFPA and Transport Canada symbols, and reference sources for unknown materials. They also learn how to recognize hazardous materials, in addition to learning about appropriate actions needed to be taken when responding to a hazmat scenes. The course also covers PPE, respiratory hazards, exposure, and more. Trainees must complete a written exam to receive their certificate.
