Course Objective:
Basic First Aid (Formerly Occupational First Aid Level 1) certifies trainees with a Level 1 Basic First Aid Certificate which permits them to work as a Basic First Aid Attendant on a worksite in BC.
WorkSafe BC Basic First Aid class is an Emergency Services training course. Trainees learn about basic life support, CPR, wound care, and more. This course is aimed at those who will be designated workplace first aiders on job sites within 20 minutes of a hospital.
This one-day Basic First Aid course is offered in-class. Trainees learn about the EMS system and the Check>Call>Care order of operations. They then learn how to respond to airway blockages, breathing and circulation emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, and wounds. Diseases, poisons, traumatic injuries and spinal injuries are also covered. Trainees will be evaluated in a simulated environment, where they will have to showcase the skills learned during the course. In addition, course participants will have to take a written exam to receive their certificate.
