Wilderness Survival is an Entry-Level course. This course is not workplace-specific and is aimed at anyone who may live in, work in, or travel to remote locations that might present wilderness hazards.
This 3-day, 2-night (continuous) Wilderness Survival course is offered at a remote, survival-specific location. Trainees stay on site for the full duration of the course practicing survival skills with up to 11 other participants. First, trainees are introduced to basic concepts of wilderness survival, including topics such as survival kits, survival priorities, and the psychology of survival and risk factors. The course then covers strategies and techniques for starting fires and building shelter with both survival kits and on-hand materials. Participants are taught various knots for use in shelter building and other survival applications. They also learn how to find and use survival tools. Navigation techniques are covered as well, in addition to safe food and water consumption practices. Finally, the course covers signalling for help and ground-to-air communication, including alert fires and and signal mirrors.
Trainees are evaluated based on their performance over the entire course of this three-day program.
