Course Objective:
Red Cross Oxygen Administration course certifies trainees with an Oxygen Administration certificate which prepares them to administer supplemental oxygen or assist with breathing problems and emergencies.
Oxygen Administration is an emergency services training course. Standard First Aid Level C or equivalent is a prerequisite. Trainees learn proper airway management procedures and how to administer supplemental oxygen.
This 1-day Oxygen Administration Course combines classroom experience with hands-on training. Participants learn the purposes or oxygen therapy and when oxygen administration may be required, as well as how to test oxygen levels using pulse oximetry. The course also covers the various types of oxygen delivery devices and how they function, including resuscitation masks, nasal cannula, bag-valve masks, and non-rebreathers. Trainees learn how to properly assemble and use oxygen equipment, including oxygen cylinders, pressure regulators, and flowmeters. In addition, they learn how to safely insert and remove airway adjuncts nasally and orally, and how to safely administer supplemental oxygen. Trainees must pass a written exam to receive the certificate.
