Course Objective
This course recertifies trainees with a Power Saw Operator’s Certificate which permits them to operate a power saw in a workplace environment.
Trainees review how to safely operate power saws and perform bucking cuts on trees and logs.
The 2-day Power Saw Operator Course combines in-class training with field experience. In-class, trainees learn about relevant provincial and federal power saw regulations, chainsaw parts and functions, maintenance, personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of chainsaws and basic chainsaw procedures. In the field, trainees perform bucking and limbing under supervision and discuss and/or perform more advanced boring cuts as well. The course also demonstrates proper chainsaw refuelling and maintenance, including how to tell if a chainsaw is dull or requires oil. Emergency response plans in the event of a chainsaw accident or incident are also detailed. Trainees must then demonstrate proficiency with a chainsaw and pass a written exam.
