Course Objective:
S-232 Portable Pumps course certifies trainees with a Portable Pumps Certificate equipping them to set up and operate portable water delivery systems in firefighting operations.
Portable Pumps is an Emergency Services Training course. Trainees learn about system design, hydraulics as well as safe startup, operation and shutdown of portable pumps.
The 2-day Portable Pumps training program is offered in-class. First, trainees learn about the objective of portable water delivery systems, personnel and equipment resources, and hydraulic factors. Then, they learn about equipment. Specifically, the component parts of a portable pump, different nozzle types, and the difference between two-cycle and four-cycle engines. The course then outlines the responsibilities of operating a portable pump, including selecting appropriate nozzles, managing risks and environmental concerns, preventing flooding, and troubleshooting the pump setup. Lastly, the course covers hydraulics, including appropriate water pressure depending on scenario and schematic designs of water delivery systems.
Trainees must pass a written test and successfully perform a field exercise using portable pumps to receive their certificate.
