Joint Health & Safety Committee Training

Course Objective:

Joint Health and Safety Training is an Entry-Level course. All workplaces with 20+ employees require a health and safety committee. Trainees learn the role of a health and safety committee and how it functions. They also learn how to identify and control workplace-specific hazards, which aids in the development of health and safety plans.

Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:

The first part of JHSC training course certifies trainees with a Joint Health and Safety Certificate. Upon completion, graduates work as a workplace health and safety representative or serve on a workplace joint health and safety committee.

To become and remain certified you need to follow these steps:

  1. Complete this 3-day JHSC Part I course
  2. Complete a 2-day JHSC Part II course within 1 year of completing Part I
  3. Complete the JHSC Refresher Training every three years
Topics Include:

This 3-day Joint Health and Safety Training Course is offered in-class. Trainees learn the functions of a joint health and safety committee and representatives, as well as their personal responsibility as reps or committee members. Topics covered include workplace health and safety standards and regulations, employer and employee responsibilities, the right to refuse unsafe work, and more. The course also covers the identification and management of workplace hazards, the role of workplace inspections, and incident investigations. Trainees must pass a written exam to receive their certificate.
