Joint Health & Safety Committee Training

Course Objective:

Joint Health and Safety Training is an Entry-Level course. All workplaces with 20+ employees require a health and safety committee. Trainees learn the role of a health and safety committee and how it functions. They also learn how to identify and control workplace-specific hazards which aids in the development of health and safety plans. This is the second part of JHSC training.

Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:

The purpose of the second part of the JHSC training is to certify trainees with a Joint Health and Safety Certificate permitting them to work as a workplace health and safety representative or serve on a workplace joint health and safety committee. In addition, topics are designed to expand upon knowledge regarding health and safety in the workplace.

To become and remain certified you need to follow the following steps:

  1. Complete the 3-day JHSC Part I course
  2. Complete a 2-day JHSC Part II course within 1 year of completing Part I
  3. Complete a JHSC Refresher Training every three years
Topics Include:

This 2-day Joint Health and Safety Training Course is offered in-class. Trainees learn the functions of joint health and safety committee and representatives as well as their personal responsibility as reps or committee members. Topics covered include workplace health and safety standards and regulations, employer and employee responsibilities, the right to refuse unsafe work, and more. The course also covers the identification and management of workplace hazards, the role of workplace inspections, incident investigations and how to apply recognition, assessment, control, and evaluation principles to each hazard module. Trainees must pass a written exam to obtain their certificate.
